How You Can Be Healthier, Happier & Wealthier

“If you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it’s not all you want.” – Elbert Hubbard, Writer, Publisher, Artist, Philosopher

It has been a rainy spring and that has put a damper on my exercise routine. I get up every morning with the intention to go for a walk outside. I have my Nordic walking poles leaning against the wall by the stairs beside my running shoes. They have stood there for weeks, unused.

My mini-rebounder was delivered today. So, if I can’t walk outside, I can at least bounce on my rebounder. I bounced this morning because it’s raining again. I’m re-starting my morning ritual for the one-hundredth time. Arise, meditate, drink coffee, journal, exercise.

Sometimes it’s a challenge to do them all. So, I’ve decided to focus on just one thing. Exercise.

Now, although exercise is a part of the ritual, I am not going to make any claims this will make you rich and famous, especially, after hearing Warren Buffet’s answer to Judy Woodruff’s (television anchor and journalist) questions about what he, the second richest man in the USA, does in a day.

He said, “I mean, I can do anything I want, basically, as long as it doesn’t involve athletic ability, or something like that.”

On the other hand, Hal Elrod, in his book, The Miracle Morning, says that his morning rituals, including his exercise routine, helped to bring him back from a near death experience, as well as depression, to a life of happiness and prosperity. He is now one of the top successful writers on Amazon, with his Miracle Morning book series.
Obviously, this leads to many questions – Rituals vs. no rituals. Exercise vs. no exercise – What should we do and when should we do it? Our happiness is on the line here. So, where do we start? And what is the formula?

Let’s start with exercise. Does it make a difference when you exercise? Most people, including Elrod, say that morning exercise is the most beneficial for creativity and productivity. However, in a recent compilation of studies, Morning and Evening Exercise, by Dae Yun Seo, et al, timing doesn’t seem to make a difference.

What is clear, whatever time of day you chose to do your exercises, there will be benefits.

How much time do you have to devote to this? Not a lot. You can start small. Anthony Robbins, Motivational Coach, says, “You have to prime yourself. If you don’t have ten minutes to prime yourself, you don’t have a life.”

You don’t have to be anxious about it. Make it fun. If you skip a component of your routine one morning, or even miss a morning from time to time, don’t worry. Just start over the next day. Don’t take yourself too seriously. As Elbert Hubbard says, “Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.”

Look at exercise as the thing that will help you to keep doing your work and do it with more energy and enthusiasm. It may even increase your sense of well-being, enhance your mood, and contribute to your happiness.

Warren Buffet went on to tell Woodruff that he feels he has lived to the age of 88 because he’s doing what he loves. He said, “The secret is to find what you love to do… I was lucky enough to find it very early in life. And then the second thing is to have people around you that make you feel good every day, and make you a better person than you otherwise would be. I have more fun doing this than anything else I can think of in the world, and I have seen a lot of other things you could do in the world.”

It is reported, at the age of 77 Buffet’s doctor told him, “Either you eat better or you exercise”. He chose exercise. We know it wasn’t the exercise ritual that got him wealthy because he was already wealthy before this. But maybe it’s helped him to get even wealthier and happier, now, at the grand age of 86.

So, here we have the formula. Find what you love. Have fun doing it. Surround yourself with good people. Get a little exercise.

You and I may never become as wealthy as Mr. Buffet but wouldn’t it be great to become just a little bit healthier, happier, and wealthier, everyday?

Why not try getting into a morning ritual? Or make it an evening ritual? As we’ve seen, there is no definite evidence that the time of day matters. All that matters is that you get into action.

Pick one thing — exercise, meditation, writing, singing, dancing, whatever … Do just 10 minutes. Do it for thirty days. Add something else for the next thirty days. See what happens.
